Research is my Fashion

       I may not remember exactly when I fell in love with quantum mechanics and optics, but I know well the moment when I made the decision to spend the rest of my life learning, teaching, theorizing, discovering, and revealing subjects at the microscopic scale of our uniform universe where quantum mechanics “rules the law”.  I was taking a graduate quantum mechanics course, the first term of a three-semester course sequence, when I asked the late Professor Lorenzo Narducci, the instructor of the class at that time, a simple question.  His reply was another question which I had to investigate and present to my classmates in a short talk.  After presenting my findings to my classmates, Prof. Narducci stood up and said with his passionate Italian demeanor: “You came to me and asked me a question.  Today you did not just answer that question, but you ate it like a dog.”  Thus, a joyful, challenging, and successful research journey started on Friday December 7, 2001.
